Commissioned for the tenth edition of A L’ARME!, a festival for avant-garde jazz, experimental music & art in Berlin, this sonic and visual installation brought the energies of two New Yorkers, composer Nick Dunston and artist Alex Schweder, into a new collaboration. Their co-authorship culminated in a sound/light/mist experience sited in the hearse ramp of Berlin’s first crematorium that was recently renovated into a cultural venue, Silent Green.
Visitors experienced this work as a kind of gateway into the evenings performances that featured Kee Avil, Lauvdal / Johannesdottir / Ratkje, and Moor Mother & Band as an architecturally scaled aperture hovered and transformed over time as a seven-channel spatio-sonic composition of liminal static sounds was delivered as a series of layers along visitors procession toward the main music stage.
